February 2 - Workers at yet another of the 2014 World Cup stadiums, the Arena Fonte Nova (pictured) in Salvador, Brazil, have threatened to go on strike.The Arena Fonte Nova is also shortlisted as a venue for the 2013 Confederations Cup, the World Cup dress rehearsal held a year before the finals.
However, it could now suffer the same fate as stadiums in Brasília, Belo Horizonte, Recife and Rio de Janeiro – all of which have been hit by industrial action.
FIFA general secretary Jérôme Valcke praised Salvador on their preparations only two weeks ago on a tour of Brazil but, behind the scenes, workers are reported to be unhappy over wage deals and have threatened strike action.
In Recife workers have been on strike for a week.
Meetings between their representatives and consortium managers have so far failed to reach an agreement.
